The Best Waiheke Vineyards to Visit
Waiheke's best-known vineyards and cellar doors: Mudbrick, Cable Bay, Stonyridge, Tantalus, Te Motu, Batch and Casita Miro, where they are, what tasting costs and which tours stop there (Oct 2026).
There is no single best Waiheke vineyard, but there are two clusters worth knowing: Mudbrick and Cable Bay, a few minutes from the ferry wharf with views back to Auckland, and Stonyridge, Tantalus and Te Motu, side by side on Onetangi Road in the middle of the island. The Waiheke Winegrowers’ Association lists 25 vineyards, out of about 30 growers on 216 hectares, and Waiheke Island Tourism lists 15 cellar doors and tasting rooms. If you want boutique cellar doors chosen and pre-booked for you, The Wine Tasting Company’s Best Cellar Tour pours 10 to 15 wines at three of them, all tasting fees included, from US$118 a person (checked October 2026).

Near the ferry: Mudbrick and Cable Bay
Mudbrick sits on Church Bay Road above the gulf, looking back towards Auckland. Its tastings run from NZ$22 for the sweet wines to NZ$31 for the flagship or reserve flight, take about 20 to 40 minutes, and need no booking for groups under seven; the cellar door opens 10:00 to 17:00 every day (Mudbrick’s site, October 2026). Fullers360’s Taste of Waiheke ends there, and on the three-vineyard tour, reviewers in 2026 name it as the last stop and the highlight for its views.
Cable Bay, next door, pours wines from its Waiheke vineyard and from the Awatere Valley in Marlborough; the cellar door opens seven days a week (Waiheke Island Tourism; hours on Cable Bay’s site).
Onetangi Road: Stonyridge, Tantalus and Te Motu

Stonyridge takes walk-ins when there is space and lets groups of up to 8 reserve, so book ahead to be sure: the Signature Tasting is NZ$35 for four island wines, and the Larose Vertical NZ$80 for four back vintages of its Larose (Stonyridge’s site). One guest on the beachfront lunch tour in October 2026 wrote about a blind tasting there.
Tantalus, at 70-72 Onetangi Road, sells an Estate Tasting of four wines for NZ$25 and a Reserve Tasting for NZ$30, both booked online, and an Exclusive Tasting for NZ$50 by appointment (Tantalus’s site).
Te Motu, established in the late 1980s, offers seated tastings of its aged reds; its cellar door opens 12:00 to 17:00 daily and pours a flight of four current-release wines; bookings are essential at weekends (Te Motu’s site).

Food stops: Batch, Casita Miro, Kennedy Point
Batch is a lunch stop: Taste of Waiheke serves its two-course lunch there, and the three-vineyard tour stops there or at Charlie Farley’s for a lunch you pay for. Casita Miro, above Onetangi, pairs wine with food and serves the gourmet tour’s tapas lunch. Kennedy Point pours certified organic wines with Te Matuku Bay oysters on the gourmet tour, when the oysters are in season.
